Methodology guide -- CN 7318 (fasteners)
Fasteners are the highest-volume CBAM steel category by article count (though not by mass). Chinese supply dominates (~510kt/yr); Taiwan is a secondary high-quality source.
Step 1 -- understand the cold-heading manufacturing route. Most fasteners are cold-headed from wire rod. The upstream wire-rod emissions dominate; the cold-heading step adds <0.05 t/t.
Step 2 -- handle Taiwan favourably. Taiwanese fasteners (BoltunForte, CSF, Sumeeko) are often higher-quality EAF-route product -- verified data is competitive on emissions terms with Chinese supply.
Step 3 -- track per-shipment volumes. Fastener shipments are often 1-20 tonnes per container; CBAM cost is small per shipment but annual aggregate volumes matter. Build a per-supplier annual emissions tracker.
