Methodology guide -- CN 7307 (pipe fittings)

Pipe fittings are fabricated steel components, typically forged or machined from upstream steel input. Chinese supply dominates (~390kt/yr). Per-tonne value is high, so CBAM cost per fitting is small but the per-shipment count is large.

Step 1 -- request the upstream chain. Forged fittings carry the forging-billet emissions plus a small forging step. Machined fittings carry the upstream bar/tube emissions plus a machining step.

Step 2 -- handle the high-value/low-mass mix. Fitting shipments are often <100kg per pallet but high invoice value. CBAM cost is mass-based -- so it's low per shipment in absolute terms, but cumulative annual imports of fittings can be material.
