Methodology guide -- CN 7227 (alloy bars/rods, hot-rolled)

CN 7227 is alloy wire rod -- input to high-strength alloy wire applications. Production route follows the alloy-steel pattern: predominantly BF-BOF in China, with some EAF in Türkiye and Europe.

Step 1 -- understand the alloy mix. Alloy wire rod for spring or fastener applications can have 0.8-1.5% manganese, 0.3-0.7% chromium and other elements. Each element adds embedded emissions through the alloy supply chain. Ask for verified data if your import mix is grade-concentrated.

Step 2 -- compare to plain wire rod (CN 7213). Alloy wire rod is typically 5-10% higher emissions than plain carbon wire rod due to the alloy inputs. Plan procurement decisions accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

What is CN 7227?
Hot-rolled bars and rods of other alloy steel, in irregularly wound coils -- the alloy version of CN 7213. Used in alloy wire production (springs, fasteners).
